The Smallest Thing

2019
print, projection, magnifying glass, three milk teeth

The complexity of news in the media and the remoteness of factual data does not allow the audience to create an emotional relation with things that do not personally concern them. How is it possible to take a stand to this distant information and how to even verify it?

The artwork is looking for the smallest verifiable element in the complex conflict in Syria. It is represented by three milk teeth of Bana Alabed. The artwork consists of three milk teeth as an artefact, an evidence of the existence of 7-year-old Bana. The artwork also involves an infographic - a collection of arguments from social media which say whether Bana is a real girl tweeting about the war in Aleppo or she is just a puppet of propaganda. The artwork also contains a Twitter communication between me and Bana (real or fictive). The artwork tries to make the audience question the authenticity of the milk teeth. It raises questions about trusting incidents that are made of complex information which are impossible to verify.
