Iron balls, black sheet metal, metal strips, chalk

200x200x20 cm

The artwork comes from the principle of the Chinese strategic game GO. In this game, a player tries to encircle the stones of his opponent. This adaptation uses the game board which contains little metal balls. On the board there are gaming stones made from the same material as the balls. An unstable space is created and it is possible to change and adapt it. The game rules are written with chalk on the board. The viewers (players) have a chance to explore the rules by gradually revealing them from beneath the balls, but at the same time they risk erasing the rules, or they ignore the rules and adapt the game and the game board.

The change in the game mechanism represents the space where the relation to the rules is irrelevant. The game board represents an already started game where ignoring the rules is a strategic advantage, and the effort to follow the rules requires a lot of extra work. Such a play is either unbalanced for one player, or loses its meaning completely.
