Leviathan's DNA

IKEA lamps, aluminum structure, electrical cables, plastic LED tubes

Leviathan is a mythical being whose existence has not been proved, nor disproved. In my installation I examine his basic building unit - his DNA. The work is a reaction to the post-truth world full of false news and populistic messages and statements without any relation to the reality.

The basic building units of the installation are pairs of desk lamps. They light into each other, which represents an information without clear source and the light as a symbol of knowledge disappears.

Leviathan in the title refers to Hobbes’s Leviathan, a political power over an individual. It represents the world of loosening and atomization of politically built structures. “World is a battlefield again: a war against everyone, thus a war not led by anyone particular against no one particular.” (Zygmund Bauman)
The personality of a huge authority exceeds us, but it falls into small pieces and its reconstruction seems meaningless. The artwork uses with the paradox in scale but also in the meaning of the concept of Leviathan.
