Myths played a significant role in the history of every society. What role remains for them today, in a digital and post-truth era that is utterly saturated with myths, half-truths, and falsehoods? Light and sound interventions by visual artist Pavol Truben translate the motifs of mythological animal symbols into the present day. However, instead of the usual visual pomp, they reduce them to simple shapes and visual shortcuts that conceal a raw, ironic commentary on the world we live in.
Within them, we can discover references to workplace burnout, toxic masculinity, the absence of authority, the loss of life’s purpose, the endless cycle of consumerism, or apathy toward problems whose solutions only create further issues. Paradoxically, through these grand social themes, the project raises questions about personal experience while reminding us that every era grapples with its own challenges.
Will we overcome ours?
